Herbs Preparation
When herb prescriptions are filled in a Chinese herb dispensary or herb store, the herbs are usually packaged as single-day dosages. There will be one package made up for each day for each prescribed formula. For example, a seven-day prescription will be measured and packaged as seven packages.
1. Place on package of herbs (one day’s dosage) in a clay, ceramic, glass or stainless
steel pot. Do
not use aluminum, copper or cast-iron pots.
2. Add one cups of cold water or enough to cover the herbs.
3. Do no sit or soak in the water before boiling.
4. Bring the herbs to a boil, then let it boil additional 2-3 minutes. Drain the liquid and
save it in the
glass.
5. Add about one cup of cold water to the herbs in the pot. And repeat the previous
four steps.
6. Combine and mix the two cups of saved liquid; this is the herb tonic or “soup”.
7. Drink one cup of warm saved liquid 30 minutes before breakfast.
8. Cover and refrigerate the remaining saved liquid.
9. Warm up the remaining cup of saved liquid and drink it in the evening 1 hour before
going to
bed.
